Gloria Jeans Coming to Isloo

Just a quick head's up: the Australian originated coffee chain is headed to Islamabad where it'll make its mark in Kohsar Market. Hopefully, it'll expand to other areas outside of the sector. Somewhere where it's...oh I don't know...more centrally located, purrhaps? Everyone who's anyone knows F10 is the new center. Ja.

Here's to hoping!

But on the plus side, it has arrived or will be coming soon at any rate. Things to be thankful for, ladies and gentlemen.

Ok, F-10 is NOT the new center lol. Spoken like an old Islooite yes, and you probably wrote that to piss people off, or as an inside joke, but it needs clarification nonetheless lol.

There's too much history, culture, tradition and values in the old city for the center to move away. Can try, just like the good people at Defence Islamabad, but it just ain't gonna fly ;)

Any Starbucks updates?? I know a Kuwait based company already owns the franchise for Pakistan, and they did a study last year.
Know anything.. anyone?

Are you an Islooite also? :) I was born in Khi, admittedly but celebrated my first birthday in Islamabad. I'm as old school as you can get. Sure, F-6/F-7 were the center(s) of the city and I guess for most of us, they're always going to be the center...but a lot of the crowd that they're aiming for is located in F-10. A fact that most franchises have picked up on, considering the opening of Pizza Hut, KFC and McDonald's in our backyard.

It wasn't an inside joke or an attempt to piss people off (lol!) as it was merely stating a fact. For me, "home" is still on the other side of the park but I guess for most of the crowd these days, it's F-10. However sad that may be, and yeah I'm still gonna go to the opposite end of town to get my caffeine fix. As always. Some things don't change, I guess. :)

As for Starbucks, nope...although personally, I prefer other brews. Regular coffee shops. I moved on from Starbucks a while ago. :)

There are no good latte's in Paki. Sure the little designer coffee shops make foamy mochas that pass for latte's but not the same thing.

I thought you were from Lahore?

F-10 will be a geographical center, especially considering further development till way past the GT Road.

But the ideological center will remain the old city. Fast food chains can't redefine that. Too much history to go around. Shams in Super, Gol Chakar in Jinnah, the 1P2P spot, PSO pump on Constitution Ave, all the Chinese places, Table Talk in Kohsar, the dhaba in the Danish embassy street, the only real 24/7 place in town, the make out spot on Ataturk Ave behind Hashwani's house, liquor from Federal Lodges, Nadia's and the pool at Marriott, gaming at F-8 markaz. Tip of the iceberg, I really could go on all day!

A true old school Islooite! Oh thank heavens. The make out spot's been converted to Hot Spot btw...still secluded as ever.

And nope, I've been here 23 years this Feb. It's my city. Lahore's nice, but it gets claustrophobic for me. Ditto about Khi for all its 'city that never sleeps' ways. I like a city that sleeps, damn it! Mark my words: Gloria Jeans will find its way to F-10.

I don't drink lattes. I like my mochaccinos thank you very much. And on that note, Hotspot's brew trumps Starbucks every time. So, for that matter, does Sweet Dreams and another small indie coffee house I checked out while I was in Cleveland. Yes, I'm over Starbucks now. :)

Don't you ever sleep!?

I like the description: the city that sleeps lol. I call it the silent charm.. Although I do like Lahore for it's less artificial and socially uptight than Isloo.

Gloria Jeans.. let's just say if it's any good, they'll spend a few more benjamins and lease a space in the old city.

And no comment on your views on latte's and Starbucks...

I think Isloo has changed re what happens behind closed doors bit. I've always thought about it like that; Lahore and Karachi are both more open. But Islamabad's getting there, with its ever growing theater scene and the generation that populates its corners now. Our generation's all grown up, dontchewknow? :)

Ah, a hardcore fan of Starbucks. Won't mess with you :P

Did sleep rather late yesterday. Have Simon Baker and The Mentalist to blame for that one, however. And the next day was a Saturday.

LOL that's what my jew-phobic Lebanese coiffeur says whenever I walk in with a Bux.

And what generation is our generation? lol
