I'm wondering if any of the followers of this blog which seems to be increasing daily, strangely (thank you for the support, my lovelies), has gone through the latest issue of The Missing Slate? If you haven't, you can below.
The idea is to get it out there as much as possible, since we've only just started and are looking to build a comprehensive set of readers who can keep up with our content. If you have suggestions and shizzle, you know where to find me (quite literally!). Alternatively, you can email or tweet me. Anything goes.
The writing's been proceeding with an eye out to the future. Having had a tutorial session with one of my professors, Jo Baker (who is 'technically' not a Professor which is something that is apparently a titled earned in the UK and that you need to apply for), it's given me the necessary nudge to keep writing on the slightly divergent path I've taken. Writing a novel isn't easy, I'll tell you that. There's a shit load of stuff you have to consider when you're writing and getting an immediate response beats having to work entirely on your own. Not to mention, building a support group is an incredible lifeline to have.
There are lots of things I'm going to have to look into post September, much of which will start in the summer so I'm going to have to learn to procrastinate less and write my 750-1,000 words daily, while filling in the remaining time writing personal statements, research publishers and companies entering the digital publishing world and also identifying agents who have a history of working with South Asian writers and are interested in what I'm writing. And of course, all along, pushing TMS forwards, gaining an online subscription base so that transition into print can be easier along with getting advertisers and monetizing the model. It's going to take time and the need to have professional contacts in the industry preferably that span the global literary and publishing scene, as opposed to just limiting it to Pakistan. I am suddenly a writer who must think in an entrepreneurial way. It's a daunting task especially since I've been raging against 'the machine' for so long. But, there is commitment there and schmoozing will be necessary.
So then? Schmoozing it'll have to be. There's so much I want to do within the industry I've wanted for so long to be a part of: as writer, editor, publisher. And now I'm being given the chance...
:)
